If you have a piece that has been waiting for the right place, this might be it.

The Margin is a quiet house. We publish slowly, and only what feels at home here. Before you send something, take a moment to read what belongs, and what doesn't.

What we're looking for

Pieces that sit with a reader. Writing that notices. Things you've carried for a while and finally want to put down somewhere.

Letters. Personal essays, unsent letters, honest fragments. Something said to someone, or to no one.

Poems. Compressed language. A held breath. A moment pressed small.

Reflections. Slower essays on living, memory, love, and what it means to be here.

Short fiction is also welcome, if it reads like something true.

What we're not looking for

Listicles, how-to posts, or motivational writing.

Pieces written to go viral, or that end with a call to action.

Opinion pieces on politics or current events.

Anything written by AI. We can tell, and it isn't what this house is for.

How to send it

Length. No strict limit, but most pieces run under 2,500 words. If it's longer, ask first.

Format. Paste the piece into the form, or attach it as a document. Either works.

Previously published. Fine, if you hold the rights. Tell us where it first appeared.

Simultaneous submissions. Welcome. Just let us know if it's placed elsewhere first.

Editing. We may suggest small changes to help a piece sit better in this house. Nothing is published without your approval.

What you keep

You keep the rights to your work. The Margin only asks for permission to publish your piece, with credit to you.

You are credited however you choose: a name, a pseudonym, or no name at all.

There is no fee to submit. There is no payment for publication. This is a quiet house, not a marketplace.

What happens next

I read everything myself. It may take up to two weeks to reply.

Not everything will be published. Everything will be read.

If it fits, I'll write back. If it doesn't, I'll say so, gently, and you're welcome to try again.

Come in. The page is waiting.
